Express Entry Requires a Minimum Number of Points

To be able to apply for Canada PR using the Express Entry system, you must have a minimum score of 67 points out of 100.

When you apply for Canadian permanent residency, you will be considered based on the following factors:
Age Maximum 12 points
Education Maximum 25 points
Language Proficiency Maximum 24 points (English and/or French)
Work Experience Maximum 15 points
Adaptability Maximum of 10 points
Arranged employment Additional 10 points (not mandatory).

Important Notes:

  • Your occupation must be classified in the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
  • Scoring 67 points does not get you a PR visa, but it does make you eligible to apply for a PR visa in Canada through the Express Entry system.
  • You are then needed to select the best immigration programme for yourself depending on your profile qualities.
  • The following immigration programmes are available through the Express Entry system:
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Federal Skilled Workers Program
  • Provincial Nominee Program for the Canadian Experience Class (pnp program)

If you are accepted into the Express Entry pool, you are not assured to get an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residence. A good CRS Score is required for an invitation.

Why are 67 points required to immigrate to Canada?

Applicants who seek to get Permanent Residency or Citizenship in Canada through the Express Entry process must score 67 points.

To be able to apply, you must have at least 67 points out of 100.

The 100-point methodology enables the IRCC to identify applicants who can contribute to their economy while also meeting particular criteria for skilled labour and knowledge.

The service allows you to create an online profile called the Express Entry Profile, where you may fill out personal information. You will be graded on the same criteria.

The highest number of points you may get is 100. Candidates with fewer than 67 points will be disqualified.

The Six Most Important Factors Affecting Your Score

The Federal Skilled Workers Program uses a 6-factor selection system to compute points and determine your eligibility to become a Permanent Resident. The following are the factors:

1. Age (Maximum 12 points)

While you must be at least 18 years old, those between the ages of 18 and 35 receive 12 points.

If you are over the age of 35, your score will be less than 12. As a result, it is best to make citizenship and immigration decisions early in your career.

Age (In Years) Points Awarded
Under 18 0
18-35 12
36 11
37 10
38 9
39 8
40 7

2. Language Skills (Maximum 28 Points)

English and French are Canada’s two official languages.

Your competence in the first official language will gain you up to 24 points, while your fluency in the second official language will earn you up to 4 points.

First Official Language – 24 points maximum:

CLB Level Speaking Listening Reading Writing Scores given per ability
7 6 6 6 6 4
8 6.5 7.5 6.5 6.5 5
9 7 8 7 7 6

Second Official Language – maximum of 4 points:

CLB Level Speaking Listening Reading Writing Points
4 4 4.5 3.5 4 5

Note:

The CLB level, or Canadian Language Benchmark, is a 12-band scale that tests English ability in adults who speak English as a second language.

You will still be required to take the IELTS language exam in your home country, and your CLB score will be computed as a result.

However, knowledge and competence in both can considerably improve your prospects since you will be able to communicate effectively with the company.
