The work market in the United Kingdom has shifted as a result of the Coronavirus epidemic.
For example employment, growth in hospitality, transportation, and commercial services has slowed, although the job picture in healthcare and public administration remains favorable. Prior to the pandemic, the sector with the most promising job prospects was wholesale and retail trade, with an anticipated 4.97 million jobs; healthcare and social work followed, with 4.48 million positions in March 2020.
Three months after the pandemic began in March, the healthcare sector experienced the greatest increase in job openings, with 2.7 vacancies for every 100 employees.
The wholesale and retail trade sectors have lost jobs in the last three months due to the closure of non-essential retail enterprises to comply with social distancing requirements.
The Employment Expectation Survey conducted by the Manpower Group reveals a net employment outlook of –6 percent for the first quarter of 2022.
According to the report, only 49 percent of firms in the UK expect hiring to return to pre-pandemic levels in the next 12 months.
The study of 1,300 companies discovered that, despite hints of a pick-up in hiring intentions in banking and construction, more employers projected to let off workers than hire new ones during the first three months of 2022.
“The headline figures are progressively trending in the right direction, and we are seeing a continuous comeback in important areas like banking and business, giving us reasons to be cheerful as we head into 2022,” says Mark Cahill, managing director of ManpowerGroup UK. Despite this upward trend, the UK remains the least optimistic in Europe, with Brexit uncertainty and the impacts of a second Covid-19 wave hanging large.”
Outlook by industry
The poll found that the employment prospects in financial and business services had improved. The adoption of remote working has resulted in a high need for professionals in the domains of business administration, human resources, and management.
