Jill Balser, Minister of Labour, Skills, and Immigration

“Nova Scotia is unquestionably a special place that excites and allows one to see their future with their children.” Population increase is critical to the country’s economic prosperity. After preparing for expansion, market norms, and working with companies and various settlement organizations, we intend to welcome many people to make Nova Scotia their permanent home.”

“Recently, 500 Ukrainians were welcomed through the Canada Ukraine Emergency Travel Authorization” (CUAET). These immigrants are currently included in the total allotment of newcomers.”

Immigration Programs in Nova Scotia

1. Program for Atlantic Immigration (AIP)

The Atlantic immigration program was launched in 2017 as a pilot initiative allowing immigrants to settle in any of the four Atlantic Provinces.

AIP has a track record of performance and will be made permanent in January 2022.

This encourages Atlantic Canadian firms to register with the province for official designation, which entitles them to waive the Labour Market Impact Assessment if they hire foreign nationals (LMIA).

If an employee accepts a job offer from a legitimate employer, the company is required to connect them with a designated settlement service provider. The service provider must analyze the applicant and any family members in preparation for their arrival and develop a settling plan.

2. Nominee Program in Nova Scotia (NSNP)

The NSNP is a separate program from the AIP that provides candidates with nine different immigration options.

Streams aligned with Express Entry

The Nova Scotia labor market priorities, Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry, and physicians are only open to candidates with Express Entry profiles with the IRCC for the Nova Scotia labor market priorities.

Stream of Skilled Workers

This stream requires a job offer from a Nova Scotia employer, and the work experience must be listed in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill category.

The Skilled Worker stream is accessible via the NOC skill codes 0, A, B, C, or D. Depending on the candidate’s NOC, the language proficiency score criteria may differ.

International Graduates in High Demand

Applicants to the In-Demand International Graduates stream must complete at least a 30-week program for an in-demand occupation such as early childcare or any program connected to an in-demand occupation. A job offer in Nova Scotia is essential, as is the completion of at least half of the 30-week program in Nova Scotia.

Entrepreneurial track for international graduates

The International Graduate – Entrepreneur stream is for international graduates who have completed a two-year post-secondary degree program and must have secured a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). Candidates must also have at least one year of the business ownership experience.

 Stream of Entrepreneurs

Candidates for the Entrepreneur stream must have at least three years of the business ownership experience, a business plan, and a desire to invest a minimum of $150,000 in acquiring or developing a firm in Nova Scotia.

Atlantic Canada’s immigration policies are a success.

The NSNP and AIP programs are principally responsible for Nova Scotia’s population growth. Between 2017 and 2021, around 10,000 people arrived in Nova Scotia, with 91 percent remaining in the province.
