Maintaining Express Entry

Beginning in July, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plans to track and standardize Express Entry lotteries. Every Express Entry service draw will be delayed by six months.

The pandemic has caused IRCC to stop the Express Entry program’s invitations to apply (ITA) for permanent residence for many applicants using the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

Express Entry has developed over time.

Express Entry has developed over time. Before the epidemic, IRCC used to take into account candidates for the biweekly Express Entry lotteries regardless of their program eligibility. The invitees were the candidates who scored the best on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

The Minister of Immigration of Canada is creating a new, quicker temporary to the permanent visa regime.

The FSTP and FSWP draw has been restarted following the pandemics on the grounds that it was strategically sensible to give priority to economic class immigration to Canada while there were travel restrictions in place. By the end of 2021, IRCC had invited 401,000 new permanent residents and had favored CEC applicants.

Express Entry invites to CEC candidates were put on hold by IRCC, although after the pandemic there were a few changes made to the program to get inventory under control.

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates received an increasing number of Express Entry invitations at the same time as IRCC was assisting provinces and territories all around the country with their economic development.

Effects of the all-program draw on candidates for Express Entry

From 1967 until the start of the pandemic, FSWP served as one of the main entry points for immigrants from lower socioeconomic backgrounds into Canada. Prior to the pandemic, about 45 percent of those invited for permanent residency used Express Entry.

According to research, FSWP continues to have the largest demand for the Canadian immigration procedure, even with the pandemic having an impact on Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) that IRCC creates.

For CEC candidates, the drawings have been resumed, making it easier for those who are currently in Canada to keep their right to remain there. The Express Entry candidate has the opportunity to apply for a bridging open work permit after receiving an ITA and submitting their permanent application (BOWP). While their application for permanent residence is pending, the BOWP requires individuals to preserve their legal standing in Canada.

The IRCC has issued an open work permit extension for CEC candidates that will take effect this summer.
